Do you add butter or oil to the dish before serving?
Cooks sometimes add a little extra fat, oil or butter to the dish to enhance its flavours. But we can usually ask the staff not to do that if we tell this in advance – do this when ordering and not once the meal is served.
Could you use some balsamic vinegar or soy sauce instead of the regular dressing?
Since adding dressing is usually one of the last steps of preparing a dish, it is easy to simply skip it. But bear in mind that even the healthiest of salads may easily turn into a fattening dish with the addition of dressings. Don’t forget to agree on this in advance!
Can I get some olive instead of bread and oil?
Order brown bread and a couple of olives instead of white bread and oil if you wish to reduce your calorie intake.
How big are your portions? Can order small portions?
It is a good idea to enquire about the portion size in time. If you think it’s too big, order small portions or share your meal with a friend.
Is there a side dish more suitable for my diet?
Most restaurants offer side dishes that contain potato, which is not the best idea for those on a diet. If you wish to eat something else, feel free to ask the waiter when ordering.
