SIGHTS AT THE CITY PARK THAT CHARM EVERYBODY – HEROES’ SQUARE
The Heroes’ Square is one of the most spacious squares in Budapest. It is located in District 14 and it is basically the Millennium Memorial. The Heroes’ Square is a very spectacular sight of the City Park as it is a World Heritage Site together with the Andrássy Avenue. Tourists and Hungarians like it very much!
The most important part of Heroes’ Square is the statues that surround the square itself, together with the Millennium Memorial located in the centre, a column with Gabriel on top of it and the seven chieftains of the Magyars on the bottom. Wonderful statues that should not be missed!
CULTURAL SIGHTS WORTH SEEING AT THE CITY PARK – MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
As we continue our walk among the sights of the City Park, we soon arrive at the Museum of Fine Arts, which is part of Heroes’ Square hence a World Heritage Site. The museum boasts general pieces of art ranging from all eras of European fine arts including works of Raffaello, Leonardo, Rembrandt and Monet. There are more than a hundred thousand works of art hidden in the museum, but most pieces of Hungarian art are now exhibited in the Hungarian National Gallery, so in the Museum of Fine Arts you will only find the works of very few Hungarian artists, including József Rippl-Rónai. It is truly an unforgettable experience, one of the most beautiful sights of the City Park.
AN AMAZING SIGHT IN EVERY SEASON – THE ICE RINK AT THE CITY PARK
Let us continue our walk towards a very special sight at the City Park. Feel free to visit the Ice Rink whenever you wish to row a boat (in summer) or try ice skating (during winter). One of the most visited ice rinks of Hungary is the City Park Ice Rink, where, of course, every tourist is most welcome! In case you get tired, catch your breath at the Hütte with some hot drinks. In summer, this places turns into the City Park Lake. At the place of the Ice Rink, you can then rent a boat and collect some rowing experience! Don’t forget to try some of the specialties at Városliget Café when you get tired! Try the Ice Rink, in case you arrive in winter!
A CASTLE BUILT MORE THAN 100 YEARS AGO – THE VAJDAHUNYAD CASTLE!
The castle is one of the most visited sights of the City Park! If we move along, the complex of buildings can be reached on 4 bridges. The castle got its name because its facade was inspired by the Hunyad Castle of Transylvania (now in Romania). It houses the biggest agricultural museum in Europe that is open throughout the year. There is a spectacular view to this sight from the café at the lake.

ANIMALS AT THE CITY PARK – THE BUDAPEST ZOO & BOTANICAL GARDEN
Our walk among the sights of the City Park is coming to an end, we have arrived at Hungary’s oldest and biggest zoo, which is now also a nature reserve. This zoo was opened in 1860 and used to be the only zoo in Hungary for a long time! A great way to have fun together with the family – go to the zoo at the City Park! The zoo now has more than 10 thousand animals – something truly special at the City Park.
